A bit about me...
My name is Mrs. Kahmann. This is my 13th year teaching art in the state of Kentucky, and I am proud to begin my 9th year of teaching at Camden Station Elementary. I look forward to the creative year ahead of us in the art room - I am always amazed by the creativity, effort and deep thinking our Eagles put into their artwork.
Mrs. Kahmann as an art student...
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Art Education from Eastern Kentucky University in 2004, and my Master's degree in Art History from the University of Kentucky in 2010. At EKU, I also studied ceramics (this is my favorite art medium - see some of my work below!).
While studying art history at UK, my main interests included ceramic art of Northeastern Asia, as well as printmaking processes that were developed in Europe and the United States.
Mrs. Kahmann as an artist...
In addition to teaching art, I create art mostly in the medium of clay. I am interested in creating functional ceramics (We've talked in art class about Functional Art...art that is created in order to be useful in every-day tasks, like a handmade bowl or a quilt). As an artist, I am very interested in experimenting with textured surfaces on my ceramic work, using stamps and carving tools to decorate the surface of my work.
I also draw and paint using the media of oil paint and chalk pastel. Painting and drawing were the first experiences which really got me interested in art as a child. Throughout middle school and high school, I attended an art studio run by Keith Klein, an artist who lives and works in Northern Kentucky. Growing up in his studio really taught me how important art was to my life - it allowed me to express myself, and it taught me the value of hard work and perseverance.
